A day touring a number of sites round the edge of Poole Harbour, a large natural harbour with a rich avifauna.

Pagham Harbour is an internationally important site for many species. We will visit a few different points around the harbour.

Intro to Berkshire Birding: West Ilsley/Cow Down (Saturday)

Meet 09.00 outside The Harrow, Main Street, West Ilsley, RG20 7AR ///arrival.educated.resorting. Park considerately in the street.

We will walk uphill from the village to the Ridgeway and along a section of this ancient national trail, looking for farmland birds and hoping for something unusual. A walk of approx. 4 miles.

Public Transport: Bus route 6 from Newbury stops at The Harrow. Alternatively, ask about car-sharing.

Meet 10.00 at Lower Pennington Lane Car Park, SO41 8AL ///among.lamp.quicksand

The marsh is an excellent site for waders, wetland species and passage migrants.

Intro to Berkshire Birding: Hosehill Lake LNR and Bottom Lane GP (Saturday)

Meet 09:00 in the Fox & Hounds car park, Deans Copse Road, Sulhamstead, RG7 4BE ///dated.soaks.bump (a walk of about 3 miles)

Hosehill Lake Local Nature Reserve is managed by BBOWT and maintained by volunteers from Theale Area Bird Conservation Group.  September is an upredicatable time in terms of species but anything could turn up. We’ll also take a detour along Bottom Lane to look at the neghbouring water body and birds of the woodland margins.
