BOC offered six watercolours by the late Robert Gillmor MBE for sale at auction on 7th March 2024. Robert made the paintings for the covers on the Birds of Berkshire Annual Reports, something he had done every year since 1949.
The auction at Dominic Winter’s Cirencester sale room was well-attended, both in the hall and online. Bidding was keen on the popular works.
The hammer prices on the five paintings sold were:
Buff-bellied Pipit – £220
Great Reed Warbler – £440
Hawfinch – £180
Pallas’s Warbler – £380
Red-necked Phalarope – £200
The sixth painting (Goshawk) didn’t sell on this occasion so it remains the property of the Club.
The sale netted the Club over £1,200 after auctioneers fees.
