This group of worked-out gravel pits, west of Twyford is worthy of a visit at any time of year. Angling disturbance on some waters tends to concentrate most wildfowl to the north-eastern (BBOWT Loddon Reserve) and most southerly (Hurst Green) lakes, but all should be checked as well as the intervening hedgerows, paddocks and scrub that have turned up scarce migrants including Wryneck, Hoopoe Ring Ouzel and Pied Flycatcher.
Access: Car Park off High Street, Twyford (SU 786 760). From Whistley green, Park Lane has a few laybys. The area can be approached by a pleasant 2km walk along the River Loddon from Dinton Pastures to the south (inaccessible in times of flood).
