Padworth Lane Gravel Pit is a particularly biodiverse wetland area that has developed following gravel extraction that finished in 2010. It is situated between the Kennet and Avon Canal and the River Kennet and is surrounded by lowland pastures and arable fields. It is owned by the Canal and River Trust, with whom the BOC works to manage the habitat and protect breeding waders.
Although there is no public access to the lake, it can be viewed from the gate (A) and from the footpath running along the river bank from an entrance on Padworth Lane (B) to Mill Lane, which leads on to Aldermarston Wharf. There is limited parking at A and B. An beautiful area of flooded woodland, which can be viewed from a permissive path (marked C), is a rare habitat of particular note.
